When a KFS water softener has to regenerate the ion exchange resin it uses as little salt as possible. KFS 100 uses only 2,4 kg salt per regeneration. With this filter installed the salt in the brine maker will last for almost a whole year! Our water softeners are made so they can use any kind of salt available (NaCI) even a very cheap rock salt will do.



Fully automatic

The water softeners are fully automatic and easy to install. The automatic control valve will take care of starting and managing a 5-cycle regeneration process. The only thing you will have to look after is so keep enough of salt in the brine maker. The ion exchange resin can be regenerated millions of times without any degradation of the resin's funtionality.

This is how our softner works



Water hardness is caused by so called "hard" ions in dissolved in the water (Calcium and Magnesium). The water is softened when these "hard" ions are exchanged against "soft" sodium ions from the ion exchange bed in the water softener.
Calcium and Magnesium ions are held in the ion exchange resin. When the ion exchange resin is exhausted with "hard" ions it has to he regenerated. During the regeneration process the reverse chemical reaction takes place inside the water softener, the ion exchange resin is retaining its Sodium ions and the "hard" ions are backwashed to the drain. So, the salt (actually brine) is used only druing the regeneration phase and will never enter the drinking water stream.


The regeneration process consists of 5 stages:

· backwash - particles are washed to drain
· brine & draw - brine is drawn to the softener
· brine & rinse - brine is distributed throughout the ion exchange resin
· rapid rinse - washes out the brine and "hard" ions to drain
· brine refill - refils the water in the brine maker


Two models

Our water softeners can be purchased as two different models. The first model is clock initiated and the other one is water meter initiated. In the first model the regeneration is started every time a certain time has gone (i.e. every sixth day). In the metered version the regeneration will start only when a certain amount of water has been used, by using a metered model you can assure yourself that the softener will regenerate (use salt) only as often as really required. With a water metered model you can save on salt especially during periods with little or no water usage.

Adaptable

If there are small amounts of dissolved iron and manganese present in the water and the water is hard at the same time it normally means a double investment (iron removal filter and softener). Our water softeners can be obtained with special ion exchange resin which removes iron and manganese from water, the resin has the same softening capacity but removes up to 4 ppm of dissolved iron & manganese.
