Beautiful Disease (Geffen Records) is Duff McKagan’s first solo release since his departure from Guns N’ Roses (one of his previous bands, 10 Minute Warning, re-formed and put out a self-titled EP on Sub Pop in June 1998). While still a member of Guns, McKagan logged a side-project stint with hard rock supergroup The Neurotic Outsiders (featuring former GNR drummer Matt Sorum and ex-Sex Pistols guitarist Steve Jones). More recently, he played gigs with 10 Minute Warning. Beautiful Disease was co-produced by McKagan and Noel Golden (Sammy Hagar, Dakota Moon, Beth Hart). Recorded at McKagan’s L.A. home studio, it features contributions from former Guns axemen Slash and Izzy Stradlin, as well as Faith No More drummer Mike Bordin, Plexi guitarist Michael Barragan and jazz drummer Abe Laboriel, Jr. The album is alternately serious and playful, furious and joyful, thunderous and tranquil. Says McKagan of the inspiration behind it: "To be really honest with yourself — I’d never done that. Once you start being a little bit honest, it gets bigger. I began to appreciate the little things in life." Source: Geffen Records
