What's going on in GN'R?

Friday (Feb. 6) was Axl Rose's 36th birthday. His band, Guns N' Roses, once the most popular hard rock band in the world, have not released an album of new songs since 1991's overblown Use Your Illusion two-CD release. The band's last album, recorded in the wake of Nirvana's ascent, was 1993's oddly- titled The Spaghetti Incident?, a tired collection of punk covers. So what's going on? Where have you gone, Axl Rose? Word on the street is that, having dismissed founding guitarists Izzy Stradlin' and Slash, what's left of the once- mighty GN'R is having a hard go of it writing actual songs. It's said that Rose and a couple of no-name rhythm guitarists sit in a room in Hollywood day after day trying new chord progressions, taping everything, hoping a new "Paradise City" will suddenly make itself known. And when things get real desperate, we've heard, Axl gets on the phone and starts making calls to musicians he's never spoken to before, trying to lure them to a GN'R jam session.

During this week GN'R fans has sent me a lot of e-mails. Some of them contains info. about the new album release, as well as line-up information. So, the new album is said to be released during 1998, and the line up could maybe look like this: Axl Rose (lead vocals), Slash, Duff and Matt is back again (on lead-guitar, bass, n' drums). On the rhythm guitar we'll maybe see Izzy Stradlin'... but that's not for sure. This is just rumours, and nothing of it has been confirmed yet. The mainsource for this information is said to be the Magazine 'Kerrang'. Anyway, whatever the band is doing at the moment, I'm sure about that something is really going on in Guns N' Roses....... .
