Fredrik's album chart

5/12 1999 week 48 #325

Gloria stays at the top position for the four-week in a row. It's only The Merrymakers are the only Swedish act has been #1 four weeks like Gloria in past years. Last week's highest new entry Cowboy junkies this week rushes up to #3 and is this next week #1? The band have 5 #1 albums in row and this could be the six one. Their double live album -'2000 more miles' is only on that has not reached #1 since I started my chart. Their three first albums 'Whites off earth now!!', 'The Trinity sessions' and 'The caution horses' was released before I made the first chart. Indigo girls new album this enters the top 10 for the first time. Indigo girls last 4 studio albums all made it to #1. In the top 10 Rainbirds falls out of the top 5 with their live album. Could this be the first album by them that not make to the #1? After 7 number ones. There are not many live albums that make it to #1. All of Rainbirds, Cowboy junkies and Indigo girls have had live albums that have failed to be reaching the top. Though there has become live albums that have reach number one Heather Nova's 'Blow' (week 13 1999).

Week 48 the previous years:

1992  The Rembrandts  -  Untitled
1993  Crowded house  -  Together alone
1994  Sheryl Crow  -  Tuesday night music club
1995  No chart
1996  No chart
1997  Rainbirds  -  Forever
1998  Chris Isaak  -  Speak of the devil

Welcome to my album chart. This week I have changed the design of the page as you might notice (if you have been here before. I hope that you like it! Now everything is working fine with my computer so I hope to be quicker to update my chart. After a not updated the Internet chart for some weeks I am back. The main reason that I haven't been updating my chart is that my computer crashed. It has taken sometime to get everything to work, as it should I have now also added a best of 1998 chart that you can look at.

The chart has nothing to do with any sales of the records. My chart shows every week what is my favourite albums at the moment. The main criteria are for be on the chart is that I have the album on CD or tape. The only thing that matters is my feelings about the record. The chart is purely based on my personal taste. Important is if I been listening to the album lately. If I also like it surely will rise on the chart. Sometime ago this chart was nominate as site of the day on the Swedish newspaper 'Expressen' site on the 4th of July 1998.

At the moment I about to rearrange how this page a bit. I hope that it will in the end be a better page than it was.

Sometimes you might notice that albums that are not that new are high on the chart. One example is Sheryl Crow with her second album, the reason that Sheryl took over 52 weeks to reach the top position is that it took me sometime to discover what a great album it really was.

#1 on the chart

After nearly 300 charts since the first back in 1991 there have been some different artist that dominated the chart. The first two weeks of the chart in 1991 Rainbirds did managed to have two different albums at #1. The first week it was 'Two faces' and the second week it was 'Call me easy…' was #1. Over the years since 1991, Rainbirds has had 7 different #1 albums on the album chart. In 1996 Sarah McLachlan did spend 12 straight weeks at #1 with her album 'Fumbling towards ecstasy'. Last year Heather Nova did spend 8 weeks at #1 with her album 'Siren'.
