Timmele parish

Timmele is a small parish in the province Västergötland in south west Sweden. Provinces (landskap) is a historical division with roots in the pre-christian society, the corresponding division used by the administration is countys (län) and municipalities or districts (kommun). So Timmele is a part of the Ulricehamn district which is a part of the Västra Götalands county.

Through the parish runs the river Ätran, one of the major rivers in south west Sweden. There is cultivated land in the center of the parish and around the river, and forests in the outskirts. In the forests there are small cultivated areas, crofters places and grazing fields. There are few lakes. The only concentrated settlement is the village Timmele around the church and the former railway station.

This map shows western Sweden, east of Gothenburgh. Gothenburgh has Swedens largest port, from this city lots of emigrants left Sweden. Borås, in the lower middle of the map, is the biggest city in the province Västergötland.

Here you find Borås in the lower left corner and a bit below the middle the small town Ulricehamn. Timmele church is straight north of Ulricehamn. Jönköping is a bit east of the map. The distance between Borås and Ulricehamn is just over 20 miles (35 km). Inside the red circle is where everything happens.

Another way of finding Timmele is to use this link. It leads to a site where you will find a map over Sweden. Click on area 13 which is Västra Götalands county. Then try to find Ulricehamn and click on it. Now you can see Timmele with surroundings. If you like to find my home county, click here.
