668. Panzer Jäger Abteilung

 

The battalion was formed in december 1943 in the West.1 On 18 May 1944 it was found near Zebrügge in Belgium.2 The battalion had towed AT guns and on 1 June it had its full complement of thirty-six 8,8 cm Pak 43/41 guns in three companies.3 Manpower strength amounted to 691 men and mobility was rated to be at 100 %.4 The battalion commander considered his unit to be at full combat readiness.5

One month later, on 1 July, the situation for the battalion was unchanged. It remained under control of 15. Army.6 Finally, on 28 July, it was decided to transfer the battalion to Normandy.7

The unit was transported to Germany by rail and on 2 August the battalion was loaded on trains.8 On 4 August 1. Company arrived at the II. SS-Pz.Korps.9

Further information on the activities of the battalion has not been found. The unit was disbanded in the autumn 1944.10
