989. Artillerie Abteilung
The battalion was formed in France, during November 1943.1 It had three batteries, of which 2. Battery was motorized, while the other two were partly motorized.2 Each battery had four captured Russian 12,2 cm howitzers.3
When the allied forced assaulted the beaches in Normandy the battalion was located south of Courseulles.4
Probably the battalion was destroyed during the first days of the campaign, since it does not appear on any of the charts showing the organization of 7. Army from 12 June onwards.
