1194. Artillerie Abteilung

The battalion was formed in southern France, in the area of 19. Army, during December 1943. It was motorized during 1944.¹ It had twelve captured Italian 14,9 cm howitzers.²

On 16 June, it was ordered that the battalion should transfer from southern France to Normandy by rail.³ Two days later it had begun its rail movement and it was intended to send it to 2. Fallschirm-Korps.⁴ It had reached the area south of Angers 21 June.⁵ The following day, the battalion had unloaded in Angers and was marching north.⁶ Two days later it was found east of Rennes.⁷ On 30 June it was reported that the battalion had recently arrived at 2. Fallschirm-Korps.⁸

The battalion evidently suffered badly during the Normandy campaign, since it was classified as "Zerschlagen" on 1 September.⁹ It was officially disbanded in October 1944.¹⁰
