1194. Artillerie Abteilung
The battalion was formed in southern France, in the area of 19. Army, during December 1943. It was motorized during 1944.1 It had twelve captured Italian 14,9 cm howitzers.2
On 16 June, it was ordered that the battalion should transfer from southern France to Normandy by rail.3 Two days later it had begun its rail movement and it was intended to send it to 2. Fallschirm-Korps.4 It had reached the area south of Angers 21 June.5 The following day, the battalion had unloaded in Angers and was marching north.6 Two days later it was found east of Rennes.7 On 30 June it was reported that the battalion had recently arrived at 2. Fallschirm-Korps.8
The battalion evidently suffered badly during the Normandy campaign, since it was classified as "Zerschlagen" on 1 September.9 It was officially disbanded in October 1944.10
