SS-Werfer Abteilung 102

This units was intended to be a corps unit for II. SS-Pz.Korps, but on 1 March this battalion was with 2. SS-Pz.Div. It had an authorized strength of three batteries, each with six 15 cm Nebelwerfer.1

The battalion remained with Das Reich and was committed in July with that division. However it seems that it was withdrawn from 2. SS-Pz.Div. not later than 20 July.2 According to Tieke the battalion joined II. SS-Pz.Korps late in July.3 From then it remained with the corps for the remainder of the battle in Normandy.

When the II. SS-Pz.Korps was moved to Vimoutiers before the Falaise pocket was closed, the SS-Werfer-Abt. 102 was also included.4

The battalion had a ration strength of 645 on 1 July 1944 and 537 on 11 September.5 Casualties 1 February 1944 to 11 September 1944 included eight killed in action, 88 wounded and 96 missing.6
