101. SS-Artillerie Abteilung

Originally it was intended to raise a unit named 101. SS-Werfer-Abteilung. This was commenced in October 1943. However this was never completed, instead it was decided to complete the unit as 101. SS-Art.Abt.1

The forming of the unit seem to have taken som time, since it was reported that the unit was only conditionally combat ready on 1 June.2 The battalion had the following equipment3:

1. Batterie: Four 21 cm Mrs 18
2. Batterie: Three 17 cm K 18
3. Batterie: Three 17 cm K 18

After the allied landings, it was decided to send the battalion to Normandy. It arrived at I. SS-Pz.Korps 10 - 12 June, having travelled from its original location at Beauvais, via Paris.4

The battalion was intended to be a permanent component of I. SS-Pz.Korps and it seems to have remained with that corps during the entire campaign.

The battalion had three artillery pieces combat ready on 25 August.5
